Nineteen years of teaching and research at the intersection of digital image processing, machine learning and deep learning — with a research thread that runs from convolutional neural networks back to the palm-leaf manuscripts of Kerala.
Dr. Jyothi R.L. is an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering at College of Engineering Karunagappally, where she has taught for nineteen years. Her doctoral and postdoctoral work centres on document image analysis — most distinctively, the recognition and restoration of ancient Grantha script preserved on palm-leaf manuscripts.
Her published work spans binarization, thinning algorithms, wavelet-based recognition, Gabor-based multilayer architectures and convolutional neural networks, several of which were developed specifically to recover and digitize historical palm-leaf documents that are otherwise fading from record.
Beyond the classroom, she has coordinated multiple faculty development and training programmes in image processing, Python, and open-source tools, and has led industrial visits and expert sessions connecting students with practitioners in cybersecurity and IoT.
Courses taught at undergraduate and postgraduate level, spanning core programming foundations through to image processing and applied machine learning.
